Deciding an amount: before starting

Set the amount you are willing to spend before you follow any link on this site, and treat that amount as already spent the moment you begin. Deciding in advance removes the pressure of deciding in the moment, when a run of losses or wins makes it much harder to judge clearly. Once the amount is gone, stop. Chasing a loss by increasing the next amount is a common way that a fixed, affordable amount turns into an unaffordable one.

Sources of help: on this page

This site, on every page including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: gambleaware.nsw.gov.au, gamblinghelponline.org.au, and responsiblegambling.vic.gov.au. These are the only links on the site that are not commercial. Unlike the operator listings, they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisation's own site. This site receives nothing when a link to one of them is followed.

Account controls: at the destination

Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion belong to an account held with an operator. This site has no account, no form and no server-side application behind it, so nothing published here can switch such a control on, check its status or enforce it. Each of the ten operator listings ends with the same line: check availability and the current terms at the destination before claiming anything, since eligibility rules apply there and can change without notice. Everything a reader can do with money begins only after leaving this site, when an operator link redirects to a third party and that destination's own rules and account controls take over.

Age and pace: practical steps

  • The eighteen-and-over restriction is repeated throughout this site, including on the front page and at the end of every operator listing, but nobody's age is verified on this site itself and no gambling takes place on it; any such check happens at the destination.
  • Take breaks during play rather than waiting for a natural stopping point that may not arrive on its own.
  • Keep gambling separate from borrowed money, so a loss stays a loss and does not become a debt.
  • Talk to someone else as soon as gambling stops feeling like entertainment; raising it early is easier than raising it after the amount has grown.
  • No advertising or behavioural profiling network runs on these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader based on past risky behaviour.
